Following a dry summer, there is often not enough soil moisture and already too much soil N to show a good response to added urea.

However, once the rains have started and the soil has sufficient moisture, applying N becomes important to improve pasture vigour before winter.

Go along to an on-farm day where Richard will explain: Nitrogen fertiliser application efficiency Managing nitrogen in drier conditions leading up to the autumn break Local research on nitrogen use efficiency Best management practice The workshop will be held at Paul Custance’s farm at 690 Jacksons Track, Jindivick on Friday, February 1 from 10.30am to 2pm with lunch provided. The More Profit from Nitrogen project is supported by funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Water Resources as part of its Rural R&D for Profit program, The University of Melbourne and Dairy Australia.

The countdown is on with only two weeks left to apply for the 2019 Rural Bank Scholarship Program.

The $5000 scholarship, open to first-time undergraduate students from rural and regional areas, encourages the next generation of leaders to undertake tertiary education and kick start their career in their chosen field.

The expanded 2019 program of up to 25 scholarships, will see additional support for students from drought affected areas. Ten dedicated scholarships will be awarded to those experiencing increased hardship due to seasonal conditions hindering the family budget.

Rural Bank is committed to continuing to support rural and regional students – ensuring the opportunity to undertake further study expands to all students across regional and rural Australia.

Scholarship recipients will receive financial support for the first year of their studies to contribute to the costs of accommodation, living expenses, travel and course materials.

Subject to academic performance, the scholarship funding may be extended to support their second year of study. Applications close on January 29. For further information and to apply, visit: www.ruralbank.com.au/about-us/scholarship
