Mixed results for Neerim District

Neerim played away against top of the ladder side Traralgon (2) in division two of Saturday pennant and lost 83 to 101.

Peter Throup (skip), Peter Brooks, Gerry Engelstad and Colin McKay defeated W Bishop’s team 24 to 18:

Neerim was down three nil after two ends but picked up a three to level and a one on the following end.

Traralgon then won the next four ends but could only manage ones.

Neerim picked up a three on the 12th end followed by a four, and the score was Neerim 13 to 8.

By the 15th end Neerim’s lead was out to nine.

Traralgon picked up four over the next two ends only to have Neerim follow up with a four.

Traralgon kept hanging in and had whittled the lead to four, but Neerim steadied and won three of the last four ends to win by six shots.

Neil Adams (skip), Trevor Kuhnell, Billie Cookand Karren Sheers lost to G Cole’s team 27 to 31:

Neerim started well, although dropped a four on the fourth end.

Traralgon then strung together four ends, picking up 10 shots.

Neerim cut the margin to five on the 12th end, but Traralgon skipped away to an 11 shot lead soon after.

Neerim then staged a great comeback picking up threes and a four and by the last end only trailed by one.

The last end nearly went to Neerim but a kiss went the wrong way and gave Traralgon a four shot win.

Ray Watts (skip), Jim Fallon, Rob Cook and Wes Ellis lost to G Cross’s team 18 to 28:

Neerim got off to a good start and were four shots up after seven ends, but then dropped a four to make scores level.

By the 14th end Neerim only trailed by one, but Traralgon then put together four good ends including a five and led by 11 on the 18th end.

Scoring over the last seven ends was very tight and Neerim could only cut the margin by one and went down by 10 shots.

Angus McGillivra­y (skip), Pat Fraser-Aurisch, Chris Hogan and Julie Adams lost to D. Cooper’s team 14 to 24:

Neerim dropped a four and a three on the first and fourth ends, but then closed the gap to two on the sixth end.

Scoring was tight with just ones and twos being made and by the 16th end Neerim just trailed by one.

Scoring continued to be tight with mainly ones but eight of the last nine ends went to Traralgon, who ran out winners by 10 shots.

Division 5

Neerim District Bowling Club played at home against Moe (3) and won 82 to 51.

Tony Thornton (skip), Stephen Fish Halligan, Gerald Winter and George Rymer lost to W Lock’s team 19 to 21:

Scoring was tight over the first six ends, but a three on the seventh gave Neerim a five shot lead.

Moe then won five of the next six ends and hit the lead by one.

Neerim led by two shortly after, only for Moe to win the next four ends to lead by five.

Moe held strong over the closing ends but a three on the last end to Neerim cut the margin to two in Moe’s favour.

Russell Meehan (skip), Jim Schroeder, Di Tame and Greg Bond defeated R Essler’s team 26 to 20:

Moe won the first four ends but only picked up ones.

Neerim won the next three ends to lead by two on the seventh end.

Moe then won the next six ends and led by six after 13 ends..

A five to Neerim on the 15th end had scores level.

Neerim were coming home the stronger and won six of the last 10 ends and won by six shots.

Bruce Mironow (skip), Thelma Schroeder, Liz Hodge and Gerry Melling defeated J Parnak’s team 37 to 10:

Neerim flew out of the blocks and won five of the first six ends, including a five on the fifth end.

A four on the eighth end had the lead out to 12.

Neerim continued to dominate only conceding the occasional one while picking up multiples themselves.

A four on the 20th end had the lead out to 26.

Moe won the next three ends, but again only getting ones and Neerim then closed out picking up four over the last two ends to win by an impressive 27 shots.
