Grudge match ahead for Iona

-

Iona encountered a strong Endeavour Hills-Casey team in over 60s cricket on Sunday.

A lack of player availability didn’t help the Iona cause for the match at Endeavour Hills, with seven players unavailable from its previous match for various reasons, including an over 50s match taking place on the ground opposite.

The strong Endeavour Hills team won the toss and elected to bat first before amassing a strong total of 4/216.

The best of the bowlers for Iona were Fred Franks (1/26 off seven overs), Stan Hellings (1/23), David Wells (1/41) and Peter Felstead (1/39), with each collecting a wicket.

Iona managed a credible 6/135 in reply against one of the strongest teams in the competition, with Felstead scoring 41 retired not out to continue his recent habit of collecting man of the match awards.

Alec Miller also made a handy contribution, finishing 39 not out.

Tony Wyatt showed promise in his second match, while Jon Martindale also helped Iona see out the allotted overs.

It was an unfortunate match for new Iona wicket-keeper Ernie Dessent, who suffered a hamstring injury.

Iona commeded Endeavour Hills for the presentation of its immaculate turf wicket and ground.

Next up is a grudge match against neighbours Koo wee rup at Iona on Sunday.

Iona continue to look for players, with its best side capable of being competitive.
