Strong numbers for Victory
Strong numbers took to the soccer grounds at the Trafalgar Recreation Precinct last week as Trafalgar Victory Football Club’s senior group commenced pre-season.
The club is undertaking preparation for what promises to be a significant year for the improving club.
The senior coaching team, consisting of senior men’s coach Eamon O’Hare, senior men’s assistant coach Chris Beasley and senior women’s coach Tony Wyatt, addressed the playing group and took them through their first session of the year.
The club has managed a high retention from last year’s playing list.
The club will also benefit from the addition of several youth aged players, as well as the inclusion of several new recruits. Coach O’Hare is looking forward to greater player numbers and depth, which will produce flow on benefits for both the senior and reserve teams.
Coach O’Hare said he expected improvement to come from the club’s youth and greater player availability.
“The younger boys will be a year older, stronger, quicker and confident,” she said.
“Having more players available for training and match days will also improve the squad greatly.”
The senior men’s coach also said new players are most welcomed to join the squad for pre-season.
“We will make room for new players,” he said.
“The more good players who come in, the greater the pressure to preform, participate and to train. “The pitches are looking really good. “The club has practice matches coming up and we are looking forward to doing a bit of damage this year.”
Having displayed continual improvement in recent years, culminating in a top three finish and playing off for the Browne Huizer Cup last season, senior women’s coach Tony Wyatt is looking to continue both game and player development.
“We have built consistency and improvement based on respect, team spirit and a positive attitude towards each other,” he said.
“The girls were unlucky last year in the final series, narrowly missing the grand final courtesy to a penalty shootout.
“A bit more maturity in taking opportunities will see us take another step.”
Pre-season will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. New players are most welcome.
Meanwhile, the club has finalised its coaching panel with the addition of Christopher Beasley as senior men’s assistant coach. Beasley, who lives in the town and has previously played for the club, comes with recent state league experience with Morwell Pegasus in state 1 and Peninsula Strikers in state 2.
Beasley will support O’Hare, who was awarded Latrobe Valley Soccer League senior men’s coach of the year in 2017.
Tony Wyatt will continue at the helm of the women’s team, having moulded a competitive team over the past five years. Wyatt won the LVSL senior women’s coach of the year last year.
