Birds booklet launched
The launch of the much anticipated “Birds of Drouin” booklet attracted a large crowd during the Drouin Ficifolia Festival.
This booklet, written by local expert Peter Ware, showcases some of the extraordinary birds which live in Drouin. Peter has just identified the 105th bird species in Drouin, an azure kingfisher.
Drouin has a remarkable number of native birds, the envy of many other towns, and it’s not surprising that the reason they are in the town is the large remnant and planted trees within its urban areas. Many of the birds use the hollows of old eucalypt trees or build stick nests high in the tree canopy.
Friends of Drouin’s Trees has produced 4000 copies of the “Birds of Drouin” booklet. It was possible through funding from L and F Eyecare and a Baw Baw Shire community grant.
To ensure funds for a second reprint of the booklet, a gold coin donation is requested when picking up a copy of “Birds of Drouin”.
It was only 12 months ago that Friends of Drouin’s Trees launched a “Drouin Tree Walks” booklet. The demand for this booklet was unprecedented with a reprint carried out only two months after the initial launch.
A second edition of this booklet was launched in conjunction with the “Birds of Drouin” booklet, with 4000 copies now available.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Mikaela Power officially launched the booklets and commended Friends of Drouin’s Trees on the quality. Cardinia Shire mayor Graeme Moore also attended the event.
People can find both booklets at many shops and service centres in Drouin as well as some centres in Warragul. Look out for the sign in the window.
