Registrations open for Women on Farms event

-

Registrations are open for the 30th annual Women on Farms Gathering to be held in Warragul at the end of March.

Discounted early bird registrations close on Friday.

The theme of this year’s event is “Striding Forward” and aims to highlight the role of rural women and the advances they are making in the farming sector.

This event is open to women of all ages from all over Victoria and will be held in Warragul from Friday March 29 to March 31.

Speakers, catering, tours, workshops, fun activities and venues are all organised.

“All the information needed by those interested in attending can be found on our fabulous website,” said Evelyn Lillie of Yarragon South. “Setting this website up has been a challenge for one of the volunteer organisers. In fact, getting a conference like this on the road is a great way either to uncover hidden talents or to learn new skills.

Evelyn said what was impressive about these organisers was that qualities needed to manage farming routines and to cope with inevitable challenges from nature, markets and weather, were their strengths for planning a big event.

“Rural women require resilience, tenacity, patience, hard work, the company of like-minded folk and an open mind to new skills and knowledge. Volunteers organising an annual gatherings need all these attitudes and talents,” she said.

The 2019 weekend event includes a celebratory dinner at Gumbuya World, thought provoking speakers such as Liz Clay, organic farmer from Piedmont and Camille Smith, a senior editor from The Weekly Times. The wide range of workshops includes equine nutrition.
