Warragul into decider

Warragul Bowling Club’s number one division two team has made the West Gippsland Bowls Division grand final after a fantastic 12-shot win over Traralgon.

Unlike the week before, things were looking good early with Warragul leading by 18 shots at half-time. Traralgon came back hard after the break and bridged the gap to just seven shots with Clive Padgham’s team having two ends to play.

Conditions were becoming very difficult by this stage, but Warragul managed a one and four on the last two ends for the overall 12-shot win.

Division two: Warragul Traralgon (2) 104/92.

Clive Padgham’s team jumped out of the blocks against Bill Bishop’s team and led 8/2 after six ends. They lost nine of the next 10 ends against the run of play to trail 10/18.

But they fought back with six of the last eight ends, and 12 shots to three, to win by one shot. They won 11 ends with two fours and a three, but dropped a five.

Janette Gallasch’s team was level after 11 ends but was outplayed in the second half against a strong Traralgon combinatio­n, going down by 16 shots. They won 11 ends.

Graeme Davis’ team had a good start and led 9/3 after seven ends. They traded blows over the next nine ends to lead 15/12.

But they lost two fours in a row to trail by five, and eventually lost by six. They won 11 ends.

Bill Clappers’ team had a tight first nine ends to lead 10/5. They won the next eight ends to move to a massive 32/5 lead.

They dropped three on the next end, but then got six on the end after that to lead 38/8. They got nine shots to six over the last six ends to win by a whopping 33 shots.

They won 18 ends with a six, three fours and five threes, but dropped two threes. Results: John Vickerman, Darren McDonald, Ken Scammell and Graeme Davis lost to Daniel Cooper’s team 20/26. David Alderman, Des Stephens, Peter Gallasch and Clive Padgham defeated Bill Bishop’s team 22/21. Ian Belling, Necip Akarsu, Jim Power and Janette Gallasch lost to Geoff Cole’s team 15/31. Ken Landman, Pat Hammond, Paul Simmons and Bill Clappers defeated Graham Cross’ team 47/14.

In WGBD pennant grand final on Saturday, Warragul one will take on Longwarry. This game will be played at Trafalgar.

There will be a celebratio­n at the clubrooms after the game from about 6pm. (1)

Championsh­ip triples

The preliminar­y rounds of the club championsh­ip triples were played on Sunday and it is now down to the semi-finals.

In one semi, Ted Holland, Peter Wood and Necip Akarsu (skip) will play Stan Hunt, Gary Thomas and David Ferguson (skip).

In the other semi, Bryce McKillop, Darren McDonald and Graeme Davis (skip) will play Jack Lee, Ken Landman and Jim Power (skip)
