MGFL to consider Alberton clubs

-

Mid Gippsland Football League will continue to consider whether it will be prepared to accept some clubs from neighbouring Alberton league for the 2020 season.

Alberton, that has slumped to six clubs, will continue as a stand alone league this year following the rejection of a recommendation late last year by an AFL Gippsland review committee that it and MGFL merge.

An AFL Victoria appeal panel upheld MGFL’s stance not to accept the six Alberton clubs for the upcoming season.

AFL Gippsland will continue working with the Alberton league clubs and discussing possible solutions for them from next year with Mid Gippsland, West Gippsland and North Gippsland Leagues.

However, for the MGFL it won’t quite be business as usual when the new season kicks off.

The league will drop from 10 clubs to nine after Yarragon transferred to the Ellinbank and District league.

Yarragon’s move retained a 10 club EDFL after Warragul Industrials was successful in applying for membership of the West Gippsland football and netball competition.

Dusties was one of two new clubs to move to WGFNC, the other being Tooradin-Dalmore from the now defunct South-East League.

Those moves will swell West Gippsland, now entering its third season after formation following a previous AFL Gippsland review, to 12 clubs.
