Stellar season for Longwarry

-

Longwarry's stellar season continued Saturday with an emphatic 73-point win over Nilma Darnum at home.

With many of the tougher games in the fixture already behind them, the top of the table Crows were clear favourites heading into the clash. Nilma Darnum sat at nine on the ladder before Saturday and they will stay in that place after this result.

Both sides had six scoring opportunities in the first term, but it was the Crows' front men who had the better accuracy. Longwarry kicked 4-2 to the away side's 2-4. From there the momentum belonged to Longwarry.

The Bombers kicked two goals two in the second quarter, but it was not enough to stop Longwarry's four goals three. Nilma Darnum would have a difficult task ahead of them if they were to come back from the 23 point deficit that occupied the scoreboard at the main break.

After a further three goals ten points from the Crows in the third term widened the gulf insurmountably for the Bombers. 81 to 37 was the scoreline heading into the final quarter.

But there was little Nilma Darnum could do. The away side continued their efforts with an additional goal and two points. 16.22.118 to 6.9.45 were the numbers on the scoreboard when players walked off the field for the final time.

The always in-form Russell Lehman was best on ground for the Crows. His efforts were backed up by Corey Lendersm, Kane Oldham, Nicholas Redley, Jake Tabone and Nick Walsh. It was a good day out for Tye Holland and Daniel Fry also, who each bagged four goals. Jedd Serong's three goals was also impressive.

Travis Dyke was best on for the away side. Casey Thomsen, Jack Rudell, Ben Campbell, Luke Bartlett and James Bourke also received honourable mentions. The Bombers' Mark Engley efforts were crucial to his side's scoreline, kicking three majors.

Both teams stay in the same places the occupied on the ladder after round 5. Longwarry remain the benchmark at number one.
