Top spots unchanged after five good wins

The EDFL reserves ladder has seen no movement in the top five after round five. Longwarry, Ellinbank, Poowong, Lang Lang and Yarragon all won their respective games on Saturday.

Nyora leapfrog Buln Buln and settle in sixth spot after a 66 to 29 victory over Catani. Buln Buln stays at number seven, with Neerim Neerim South falling two places and rounding out the top eight.

Nilma Darnum still sits in ninth place after sixth losses and winless Catani are on the bottom.Longwarry scored an emphatic 162 to 3 win over Nilma Darnum at home on Saturday.

The Bombers were kept to just one behind in each of the first, second and third terms. They were scoreless in the final quarter.Shayne Gillings and Ben Cuckson both kicked four majors each for the Crows. Harley Jones, Glenn Browney and Peter Harrison were the other multiple goal scorers Shaun Eckhart was best on ground for the home side.

He was backed up by Shayne Gillings, Ben Cuckson, Harley Jones, Braydon Monroe and Brody Hamilton. There was another huge win this round EllinbankÕ­s 120 to 19 victory over Neerim Neerim South.

The Eagles kept their guests to one behind in the first quarter. The Cats added a major in the second, another major before three-quarter time and the third major in the final team. In comparison, the home side had reached the fifty-point mark by the time they reached half time.

But they added just one behind to their tally in the third. They made up for that effort by kicking an incredible 11 goals and three behinds. Ben Drew was the Eagles’ best player. Ashley Scott, Andrew Quirk, Jayson Barwick, Ryan Carpenter and Matthew Robertson were also influentia­l. For the Cats it was Adam White who received the title of best on ground.

He was backed up by the efforts of James Maguire, Lachlan Guy, Steven Heath, Dean Macfarlane and Sam Reid. A win over Catani for NyoraÕs reserves side foreshadow­ed a win for their seniors later in the day. 66 points to 29 was the final scoreline. It was an even first term with Blues and the Saints scoring 13 and 14 point respective­ly. It was the same story in the second quarter Nyora led their hosts by just one point, 28 to 27.

But after the main break the visitors rocketed away, scoring an additional three goals one. In the final term the Blues were restricted to just two behinds. Nyora kicked another three goals one. The Blues’ best player was Trent Adams. For the Saints it was Nick Fairbank.

The Lang Lang and Buln Buln match was fairly even with a final scoreline of 53 to 50 in favour of Lang Lang. The Lyrebirds started slow. A late comeback was not enough to turn the tide. The LyrebirdsÕ best player was Brent Waddell. He was backed up by Matthew Burdett, Kyan Willis, Murray Kingwill, Simon Dawson and Joshua Bloink. For the Tigers it was Brad Michie who walked away as best on ground. Cory Dowson, Stuart Casey, Kurt Batt and William Harry Wykes received honourable mentions.

Poowong triumphed over Yarragon 47 to 24 at home.The Panthers were scoreless in the first term and kicked on one major and a behind in the second. Poowong were ten points in front by that time with 17 points. The margin grew to 20 points by the end of the third.

Another seven points from the Panthers consolidat­ed their win as their guests added three points by the end of the final term. Mathew Loughridge was PoowongÕs best player.

He was backed up by Hayden Wallis, Macy Hambrook, Lachlan Bourne, Brett Attenborou­gh and James Clark.Mathew Mosley was best on ground for Yarragon. John Maye, Trent Gleisner, Chris Demicoi, Brydon Price and Corey Ford were influentia­l.
