Results don’t fall Drouin’s way
The results didn’t fall their way, but Drouin netballers showed plenty in tough contests against Leongatha on Saturday.

It was a great game that unfortunately didn’t go the Hawks’ way.
There were some great passages of play – including Stacie Gardiner in goals; Sarah Roughead in defence and Deb Thomas in wing defence and then in centre – showing her versatility, experience and netball knowledge that is ingrained into her.
The girls showed fantastic intensity in the last quarter, but it wasn’t enough to compensate for other factors.
The Hawks created many turnovers and look forwards to facing the Parrots again later in the season. Award: Deb Thomas. B grade: Drouin Leongatha 55.
It was a tough game for the Hawks against a quality opponent.
The pace was fast from the first whistle as both teams struggled to find flow in a very high pressure game.
Leongatha eventually settled and pushed ahead of the Hawks.
A big fightback from the Hawks saw them claw within three goals but, to Leongatha’s credit, they weathered the storm and were eventually too good.

The girls had a great three quarters but couldn’t maintain that intensity for the whole game.
The defence end was superb all day, with Sarah Sharpe and Jess Murray working hard in the ring. They created many turnovers and made it difficult for the Parrots to find momentum.
Driving the ball down the court, Darcy Appleby was a constant presence, making the most of any possession the Hawks had.
The C grade girls look forwards to a better result next game and not letting it blow out in the final quarter. Award: Darcy Appleby Under 17s: Drouin 32 Leongatha 37.
In a great contested game, Drouin’s defensive pressure was amazing all down the court.
Kiarna Craig, Macy Newcombe and Sabine Lieshout used great angles to work the ball on the ring, allowing them to give off easy passes to Brooke DeRiter who held well all game.
Kristen Groenwaldt worked hard all game in keeper, providing plenty of opportunity for her attackers to convert, but unfortunately it wasn’t the Hawks’ day. 25 lost to lost to Award: Kristen Groenwaldt. Under 15s: Drouin 10 Leongatha 48.
A fantastic game from the Hawks who managed to play a competitive game. Drouin’s first half was outstanding, with shooters Tess Mapelson and Montana Lewis playing perfectly together.
Through the midcourt, Holly Cheyne worked hard for many turnovers and scrap balls. In the second half, Jemma Gregg came on and played wonderfully in goal shooter.
The coaches are very pleased with the under 15s and their hard work thus far into the season. They can’t wait to see what they can do in the weeks to come.

It was a really good game by the baby Hawks after a week off.
The team was back at full strength – the first game with all nine players available.
The Hawks had really strong first and last quarters, with the middle quarters a little up and down. However, they battled hard against a quality opponent, and should be proud of how well they all played.
The scoreboard did not reflect the quality of the game.
