Win for Dusties women

-

Last weekend saw the return of womens’ football in the Youth Girls and Women’s teams with both sides playing away.

The women travelled to Karingal for their Sunday twilight match in cold windy conditions. The Karingal girls started the game kicking with the wind which should have been an advantage for the local team but it was the Dusties who tackled hard to prevent any big score being kicked in the first quarter.

The Bulls only managed a single goal for the quarter and the Dusties unable to get the ball to their forward 50 due to high winds and quick Karingal midfield.

The second quarter it was the Dusties who kicked with wind but the Bulls were out there with a different game plan and played an excellent centre field game, moving the ball quickly from the centre bounce to goal.

A scrappy game at times the Dusties were able to prevent any runaway match and a hard working back line for the Dusties who worked overtime to prevent the Bulls from kicking any more than one goal a quarter with plenty of points.

It was Karingal who were too dominant for the new Dusties players running out winners by 34 points.

The final score read 4.9-35 to 0.1-1, Karingal’s way.

Best on ground were K.Llewellyn, S. Alweyn, B. Leslie, J. Robertson and M. Williams.

The Warragul Industrials Youth Girls also travelled all the way down to Phillip Island on Sunday in very windy and cold conditons to take on the very strong and top of the ladder team.

The girls started very well and matched everything Phillip Island threw at them in some good running and attacking football that saw both teams level at the first change thanks to a goal from Ella Perry.

The Islanders were strong in the second kicking a further two goals but it was the Dusties girls who through strong tackling and some great skills prevented the Island players from kicking any large score. The third quarter was even better for the Dusties as although they were to score, they still managed to keep Phillip Island to only 2 points

.The fourth quarter saw both sides tiring but both determined to score, again the tackling being the dominant point for both sides. But in the end it was Phillip Island who were strong enough to get another goal and win the game by 26 points. The Dusties Youth Girls can certainly hold their heads high in their determination against a very strong side.

The final score was 4.8-32 for Phillip Island with 1.0-6 for Warragul.

Best on ground were Davey, L. Guastella, Matheson, I. Whelan, Vickery and T. Binney.

Next week the Dusties women are playing Pakenham. The Youth Girls play Wonthaggi at Western Park next Sunday. S. T. J.
