Arrested in wood shed

-

A woman was arrested and remanded in custody after allegedly driving dangerously and erratically along the Princes Fwy on Friday morning and just missing a collision with two cyclists at Darnum.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested hiding in a woodshed in Darnum.

Police apprehended the woman after receiving information from a community member.

Police received several reports of a car being driven erratically and dangerously, east bound from Melbourne. The vehicle was a BMW X1 that was stolen from Carrum Downs earlier in the week.

Reports indicated the woman was allegedly driving all over the road, ranging between speeds of 40 and 140 kilometres per hour. Many motorists reported being too cautious to pass the vehicle.

Police entered the freeway at the Warragul interchange, where they followed the woman and attempted to intercept her.

Baw Baw Highway Patrol sergeant Andrew Milbourne said the pursuit was terminated within one minute when police determined the woman was travelling too fast and the safety of other road users was at risk.

Police then received a report a car had crashed into railing on the east bound off-ramp at Darnum.

Sgt Milbourne said it appears the woman left the freeway at Darnum crossed Darnum-Shady Creek Rd where she almost collided with two cyclists and travelled down the off-ramp where she crashed the vehicle.

He said the vehicle crashed about one metre from a 14-metre drop to the railway line.

The woman was arrested and taken to Warragul Police Station where she allegedly tested positive to an oral fluid test.

The woman was charged with dangerous driving, conduct endangering life, driving whilst disqualified, speeding offences, trafficking drugs and driving whilst under the influence of drugs. She was remanded in custody to appear at court today.
