Hospital appeals for equipment

-

West Gippsland Hospital is asking the community to show its generosity once again as its annual appeal kicks off.

An appeal flyer listing a wish list of priority medical equipment for the hospital, community health services and aged care residences will be delivered to letterboxes across Baw Baw Shire.

Priority equipment includes a rapid infuser for its operating theatres, a new electronic birthing bed for maternity, motorised wheelchairs for the emergency department, specialist air mattresses for the frail and aged, a bariatric dialysis chair for haemodialysis patients, and an ultrasound machine for community health to assess continence in children.

Board chairman Christine Holland said the community had shown great support in previous years to the hospital appeal and she hoped this year, people would again be able to donate.

“The West Gippsland community has a long and proud tradition of supporting its health service, ensuring it has the most up-to-date equipment and services.”

“Last year’s appeal enabled the purchase of equipment that is now being utilised by patients and residents.

These included an ultra sound machine for maternity, air mattresses and wheelchairs for aged care residences, portable vital sign monitors for oncology and surgical patients, an electronic bed for community health disability Services and a sofa bed for parents who need to stay overnight with their child while in hospital.”

Mrs Holland said the annual appeal was an opportunity to help improve care for people of all ages in their local community through the purchase of additional medical equipment not covered by government funding.

“People can chose to donate any amount towards an equipment item or a specific department.”

Donations of $2 or more are tax deductable and 100 per cent of money donated goes directly to the equipment appeal.

People can donate securely online by visiting: www.wghg.com.au or by mailing Reply Paid 121, Annual Hospital Equipment Appeal 2018, 41 Landsborough Street, Warragul, Vic 3820.

People can also drop in donations to the hospital’s public relations office or main hospital reception.
