Arrested in car

-

A 47-year-old Bairnsdale man has been remanded in custody after being arrested by Warragul Police early yesterday morning.

The man was wanted by police in relation to a number of alleged thefts in the area over recent weeks.

Police intercepted the man in Windsor Ave where he was asleep in a stolen car.

The man was on bail with conditions not to enter Baw Baw Shire.

The man will appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court today.

Gippsland public transport users will have to endure another nine days without trains during the school holidays next month.

Public Transport Victoria has announced that trains between Southern Cross station in the city and the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines will be replaced by road coaches from Saturday July 6, to Sunday, July 14.

PTV said the school holiday timing was chosen to cause least interruptions to passengers.

However, it added that travellers should allow more time for their trips, avoid peak times and consider alternative arrangements.

The disruptions to train services are also expected to cause delays on major roads including Princes Highway and Monash Freeway.

According to PTV the rail line closures are part of works to upgrade power, signalling and communications on Melbourne’s train network in preparation for the Metro rail tunnel.

It said during the period of train cancellations work would also continue on upgrades to regional train lines.
