NEW FACES BRING NEW LIFE

-

by Ali McArthur President, Drouin Hawks

Netball Club Season 2019 is one of new beginnings for the Drouin Hawks Netball Club.

We have been extremely fortunate to welcome a number of new players and families, sponsors and supporters to our club at both the junior and senior levels this year.

There has been a significant change to the coaching structure bringing in a very experienced and talented head coach, Mel Ahern.

Mel is working closely with our new and upcoming coaches, to help with senior selections and run our skills sessions.

Working with Mel are junior coaches Abbey Tyrell (Under 13s), Ali Leishout (U15s) and Nat Sloan and Ruby Pratt (U17s).

The senior coaches have also been involved with the junior coaches with some of the junior players stepping up to play in senior grades.

Heather Newcombe and Sam Gallus have found success with the C grade girls already this season and have the prospect of playing finals well in their sights.

Jodie and Kylie Proctor continue their coaching careers at the club with Jodie leading the B graders and Kylie continuing to impart her vast netball knowledge onto the A grade side.

The early rounds of the season have brought mixed results but there is a positivity around the club that is infectious.

Club values, goal setting and hard work are the focus for this season on and off the court.

All at the Hawks know the future of our club is in the junior ranks and are committed to the development of netball in the community.

The club is committed to introducing an Under 11s netball side that will train with the Hawks and play in the local Drouin and District Netball Association to help with the further development of junior teams.

Some exciting new ventures are also happening off the court with the new club branding and logo, new look merchandise and some incredible sponsorships opportunities.

Upgrades to facilities continue with the purchase of an electronic scoreboard thanks to a generous grant from the Drouin and District Community Bendigo Bank.

The club continues to work closely with Baw Baw Shire to improve the quality of facilities and the surfaces of courts.

Sponsors play a huge part in the overall success of the club.

This year we have been thrilled to welcome on board a number of new sponsors and as well as many loyal sponsors who have been supporting the club for number of years.

Keep your eye on the awks’ social media pages for updates on the ‘House and Land Battle’.

Competition between the two local sides – Drouin and Warragul - is heating up with floor plan selections, colour schemes and landscaping all to be decided in the upcoming weeks.

We can’t thank LandsGipp and Simonds Homes for this incredible opportunity.

Finally, I would like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers, families and players for what they do to make the club strong and successful.
