Crows hold on to top spot despite loss

-

Ellinbank became the first side to overcome top side Longwarry this season, with a 13-point win over the Crows at Ellinbank.

The final scoreline was 12.15-87 for giant killers Ellinbank, to a more disciplined 12.2-74 from Longwarry.

Despite the Eagles win, the Crows remain on top of the ladder on percentage.

It was a team effort up front for Ellinbank, with 10 players each kicking goals. Adam Cook and Mitchell Cowan both kicked two majors while Ben Drew, Ashley Wallace, Mark Johnson, Lucas Maffei, Tim Mashado, Michael Urie, Shaun Phelan and Tom Johnson all had one each.

Michael Urie was the best on ground for the Eagles. He was backed up by the efforts of Francis D'Agostino, Ben Wragg, Mark Vassett, Ashley Wallace and Brett Masterson.

Kane Oldham was Longwarry’s best man on the day. Nicholas Redley, Jedd Serong, Tye Holland, Riley Rundell and Aaron Serong also made important contributions.

Jedd Serong led his side’s goal kicking count with four majors to his name. Tye Holland did his bit with two. Corey Lenders, Anthony Salce, Braydon McHugh, Danny Wells, Dylan Fry and Russell Lehman all put their names to a major each.

The Crows stay on top of the ladder thanks to a greater percentage than Ellinbank, who stay at number two. Ellinbank play the Lyrebirds at Buln Buln on Saturday and so are unlikely to find the percentage to knock Longwarry from the top spot in that game.

The Crows have a home game, playing Catani at Longwarry.
