Buln Buln take all games

- By Will Watson

Buln Buln followed the success of the rest of its football sides on Saturday by overcoming Neerim Neerim South in a tight match at Neerim South.

The final scoreline for victorious Buln Buln was 12.4-76 to their hosts’ tally of 10.8-68.

The hosts kicked two goals one in the first term, almost double Buln Buln’s tally of one goal two. But that slow start for the Lyrebirds was reversed after a gear shift in the second quarter.

The away side kicked five goals one while keeping the Cats to just one major and three behinds. At the main break, the Lyrebirds held a 15-point lead.

But Neerim Neerim South made sure they did not hold that lead for long. A stellar kicking effort put the Cats back in the back. By the end of the third term just two points separated the two sides, with Buln Buln leading 54 to 52.

Buln Buln simply wanted the win more. The visitors kicked two more goals than the home side in the final term, winning by eight points.

Sam Langford was best on ground for the Lyrebirds. His performance was backed up by the efforts of Matthew Gray, Adam Rakip, Luke O'Brien, Jack Symes and Trent Baker.

Langford also led the goal kicking stats for his side with six majors to his name. Hayden Baker and Jack Symes put through two each and Luke O’Brien and Brad Trotman kicked a goal each.

For Neerim Neerim South it was Lachlan Guy who walked away as his side’s best player. Tyssen Morrow, Dean Stringer, Tyler Pratt, Chris Urie and Nathan Bayne were also influential.

Urie led the goal tally for the Cats with three goals. Tyssen Morrow and Matthew were not far behind with two each. Tyler Pratt, Ben Lockett and Jeremiah Jones kicked one each.

Neerim Neerim South drop a place on the ladder after this result, falling from fourth to fifth after a win from Nyora. A win from Catani keeps the Blues in sixth, so Buln Buln stay at seventh.

On Saturday the Lyrebirds play secondplaced Ellinbank at Buln Buln. The Cats have the luxury of a home game, meeting Yarragon at Neerim South.
