Warragul netballers made the long road trip to Bairnsdale with wins in each senior grade.

After eight rounds, A, B and C grades occupy second place on their respective ladders. A grade: Warragul 59 defeated Bairnsdale 29. The Gulls overcame several absences this week, proving there is some depth among the senior squad.

After an even first quarter, Warragul slowly chipped away at the margin, eventually pushing it out to a 30-goal victory.

Goalers Jaime Rollinson, Melissa Burton and Anna Green all shot with great accuracy whilst defensive pressure was applied all over the court. Christie Hillberg’s impressive vertical leap was once again showcased, taking countless intercepts in the air. Awards: Jaime Rollinson and Hayley Roberts. B grade: Warragul 71 defeated Bairnsdale 38. Warragul came out firing after their first loss of the season the previous round.

Anna Green and Naomi Allardyce dominated in the first quarter, scoring 18 goals. Warragul’s pressure in the midcourt from Bec O’Halloran, Eboni Wall and Lily Sheehan caused plenty of turnovers which allowed Warragul to extend their lead.

Warragul achieved an outstandin­g 71 goals for the game. Awards: Lily Sheehan and Eboni Wall. C grade: Warragul 47 defeated Bairnsdale 39. Warragul had to work hard this week to get the win, with Bairnsdale being tough competitio­n.

Persistenc­e and teamwork were shown alongside great coaching from the sidelines, resulting in a reassuring final score.

Warragul’s best were Hannah McKenzie and Eliza Monacella, but a special mention must go to coach Kim Weller, who came on in the last quarter and gave the team the lift they needed. True leadership. Under 17: Warragul 26 lost to Bairnsdale 54. After a long drive down to Bairnsdale, the 17s team played a determined four quarters against a strong opposition.

Whilst they didn't get the result, the club was pleased to see versatilit­y in each of the nine players after multiple position changes and quick adjustment­s.

The defence end worked hard all game to provide opportunit­ies for the attacking end, whilst the midcourter­s and goalers worked hard all match to remain in the game. Awards: Olivia Sheehan and Tanae Guy. Under 15: Warragul 8 lost to Bairnsdale 50. This was a tough game against Bairnsdale for the Gulls.

The constant pressure from Warragul’s defence end was beautiful and gave plenty of opportunit­y. However, against a polished opposition­al, they had a hard time converting.

Awards: Bella Hefford and Rylee McCarthy for great games. Under 13: Warragul 19 lost to Bairnsdale 50. A promising future lies ahead for Warragul’s youngest team after a hard-fought match against Bairnsdale.

The girls kept their heads held high and showed determinat­ion and teamwork, resulting in an encouragin­g outcome despite the score.
