Baw Baw Budgerigars
On a cold, first Monday of the month, 21 members attended the monthly meeting of the Baw Baw Budgerigar Society to hear Darren Macfarlane give a presentation on the breeding of rainbow budgies.
It is to be hoped that this may become a new variety in the future. The rainbow budgie is a very colourful variety, with deep body colour, golden head and clear wings.
Darren had a number of birds to show the varieties of birds to be used in trying to breed the rainbow variety. Darren also responded to a number of questions regarding this topic.
President John Rowe also informed members on the outcome of both the recent state and national championships. The Baw Baw Club had a number of birds representing the state in Brisbane with Victoria winning the National title. On a personal note the Rowe brothers had a second placing nationally with their Opaline AOSV.
On the state front Baw Baw finished fifth this year, which was a drop of one position from last year. There were a number of classes that the club wasn’t able to put forward for the state championship which accounted for the lower ranking.
Club members are now putting birds into the breeding boxes in an endeavour to have young birds ready for the UBC Championship in September.
The club would really like to encourage anyone with budgies to come along to monthly meetings to learn more about breeding, showing or caring for birds. You can make contact via the club’s website - https://bawbawbudgerigarsociety.weebly.com or find us via our Facebook page. The next monthly meeting will be held on Monday July 1 where there will be a guest speaker talking about managing the breeding room.
