Wearing green and gold

-

Dallas Loughridge and Georgia Koopmans recently attended an invitation-only basketball camp at the Australian Institute of Sport, as they gear up for the 2019 FIBA Asia Cup.

The St Paul’s Secondary College students were invited along with 22 other girls from around Australia to participate in the under 16 camp.

There will be a second camp this month before team selection for the Asia Cup, which will be held at the end of the year.

“It was an amazing experience to compete and learn from some of the most talented players and coaches in Australia at the AIS, the girls and coaching staff were great and we learnt so much,” said Georgia and Dallas.

“We are so grateful for this incredible opportunity,” they said.

“To wear the green and gold was amazing.”

Dallas and Georgia are now in preparation for the under 16 Nationals which will be held in Darwin in July. They both currently play in the Country Victoria state team and for the Dandenong Rangers’ under 16 team.

The two girls were only a small number of bottom age girls invited to attend the three-day camp. It is also rare that two girls from the same school were invited to attend. Georgia and Dallas have played together since under 12 competitions in Warragul.

Both girls go to St Paul's, where they are a part of the Elite Sports Performers Program which supports their them in finding a balance between their sporting commitments and studies.
