Physical games as Gulls defeat Sale

Warragul senior netballers won three physical games at Sale on Saturday as the junior players displayed great improvemen­t. A grade: Warragul 47 defeated Sale 31. It was a tough and physical game against Sale as Warragul worked hard for the win.

The Gulls were relentless in putting on great defensive pressure all over the court, which created many turnovers.

Mia McGarrity took home best on court for the Gulls, with her speed and feeding in the attack end a highlight.

The girls now look forward to taking on Leongatha at home on Saturday.

B grade: Warragul 36 defeated Sale 35.

It was a physical game against a strong Sale side. The scoreboard shows it was a close contest, with the margin rarely greater than two or three goals.

Bec O’Halloran provided plenty of drive down the court, with great transition­ing from defence to attack throughout the game.

There was great movement at the goal end as the Gulls capitalise­d on the many turnovers created by full-court pressure.

The Gulls fought it out for four quarters, coming out on top by a goal for the second week in a row. Awards: Bec O’Halloran and Anna Green. C grade: Warragul 41 defeated Sale 31 The Gulls continued their great start to the first half of the season with a tightly contested victory against Sale.

The midcourt worked tirelessly all game; not forcing and being patient. This showed on the scoreboard.

The Gulls defence end was fabulous in providing drive and support.

This team is determined to keep improving and building as the season goes on. Awards: Grace Cant and Sophie Fennell. Under 17: Warragul 17 lost to Sale 44. Against a very talented side, the Gulls kept composure and played a very consistent four quarters of netball.

With four under 15s stepping up, it was great to see the support and leadership of the older players out on court.

Warragul displayed some great attacking efforts all over the court which was evident as scoreboard pressure was applied.

Despite not getting a win, some impressive netball was played. Awards: Elodie Williamson and Lily Sheehan. Under 15: Warragul 8 lost to Sale 61. Warragul knew they’d be in for a challenge; but it wasn’t the result they hoped for in Sale.

Despite the score, the Gulls kept smiles on their faces and made the most of the game with a few positional changes in the last quarter. Awards: Olivia Muir and Zoe Phillips. Under 13: Warragul 5 lost to Sale 55. The skill developmen­t in this young side was evident from the first quarter in the game against a strong Sale.

The girls went into the game with a goal that improvemen­t from their first meeting in round two be reflected on the scoreboard.

Through giving it their all on the court and making the most of all opportunit­ies and creating some great plays, they achieved this.
