Drouin netballers had morale boosting wins in A grade and the under 17s as well as an exciting B grade encounter at Maffra on Saturday. A grade: Drouin 54 defeated Maffra 48. Drouin had a good first quarter with lots of good flow in attack.

Strong drive from Ruby Pratt and Alana Rippon made life easy for goalers Kylie Proctor and Stacie Gardiner, with the ball coming in quick.

Deb Thomas played well, driving the ball down the court and looking over the “midcourt” mess.

Everyone had a good game, which was the team’s aim.

Kym Diston and Ali Macarthur worked well in defence and picked off the cross-court ball well.

Drouin was just a bit more disciplined than Maffra on the day and took care of the ball. Award: Alana Rippon B grade: Drouin 43 lost to Maffra 48. It was the second last game for the season, and what a game it was.

In a tight contest from start to finish, Maffra just pipped Drouin at the post.

Injury shook the hawks a little in the first half. However, the girls responded well and their third quarter was outstanding.

With one goal in it at three-quarter time, it came down to who handled the pressure and scored from their gained balls. Maffra unfortunately finished off a little better than Hawks.

Best was Macey Newcombe who played an awesome game in wing defence. She has made this position her own this season. Award: Macy Newcombe. C grade: Drouin 29 lost to Maffra 49. It was a great first quarter by the Hawks. Unfortunately, Maffra was too good through the rest of the game.

In defence, Sarah Sharpe and Georgia Henderson worked hard to stop the ever-accurate Maffra goalers, taking any opportunity to intercept and apply pressure outside the ring too.

Both Kathryn Buckland and Kate Butler worked hard in the midcourt to set up plays into the Drouin goalers.

In her first run in wing attack, Darcy Appleby was a consistent mover feeder into the goalers. She perfectly timed her drive onto the ring.

Stretching her goaling fingers again was Rachel Pullen with some great shots and movement in the ring.

Awards: Darcy Appleby, Rachel Pullen, Georgia Henderson and Jess Murray. Under 17: Drouin 51 defeated Maffra 42. The Hawks played an amazing team game for a great win against Maffra.

Ella East created great drives down the court and combined well with Sabine Lieshout to feed the goalers easily.

Olivia Konstanty and Brooke DeRiter both worked well, using their quick ball speed to get the defenders moving.

Once again, the defenders’ pressure was outstanding. All of them got many important turnovers during the game. Award: whole team. Under 15s: Drouin 12 lost to Maffra 80. Another awesome team effort by the Hawks on the weekend.

Defensively Allanah Jagoe played brilliantly, taking several intercepts for the game.

Montana Lewis was outstanding, controlling the midcourt and then working well with Tess Mapelson in goals.

It was a tough game for the Hawks who put in an amazing effort that continues to improve each and every player. Award: Allanah Jagoe. Under 13s: Drouin 5 lost to Maffra 42. A tough ask for the Hawks against one of the top placed sides.

Whilst they may not have scored their highest score, they were able to keep one of the best sides to a relatively low score. This was a credit to hard work and defensive pressure all over the court.

The Hawks worked tirelessly all game and were able to hold the ball up and keep the opposition scoreless for extended periods of each quarter.

Awards: Mia Trewin and Lainey Downie.
