Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Snapshot of the past

-

An early photograph of the West Gippsland Gazette office between Victoria St and Smith St, Warragul.

This building was constructed by Miller Bros c.1902. It sits where the Warragul Theatre Building was later constructed in 1923.

The frontage is currently occupied by Blush on one side and Bean Scene Around Espresso Services on the other side.

The man on the left is West Gippsland Gazette founder Albert Harvey..

The large signage above the office states the West Gippsland Gazette – now known as Warragul Drouin Gazette - is published every Tuesday morning. Also note the gas light on the verandah post to the right of the building.

The West Gippsland Gazette office was situated in the centre shop before moving to the corner of Palmerston St and Smith St.

The newspaper office then moved to its current location in Queen Street, originally in two shops next to what was the ANZ Bank, before the bank building was purchased in addition.
