Copelands Rd closed

-

Culverts along a section of Copelands Rd, Warragul are being replaced to improve the flow of stormwater from neighbouring residential developments.

The road will closed until the end of the month between Sutton St and Bailey Drv. A detour will be in place via Number One Rd onto Bloomfield Rd.

Local access will remain up to Bella Vista Drive.

When complete, the culverts will carry twice the amount of stormwater during large storm events and reduce the risk of flash flooding.

Sure Constructions is undertaking the works for Baw Baw Shire.

The $230,000 project will include altering the existing water main, removing the old culverts and installing the new culvert system.

Due to the width of the existing culvert, a full road closure is required to ensure the works can be delivered efficiently with minimal disruptions.

The works are part of council’s $1 million investment in drainage projects as part of the 2020/21 capital works program which includes underground drainage systems, open (surface) drains, crossroad culverts and storm water retention basins.

Mayor Danny Goss said increasing the capacity of the culvert system along Copelands Rd would allow the stormwater system to cope with high rainfall events.

“I encourage the community to take note of the detours that will be in place for the next few weeks while the works occur and allow some extra travel time to accommodate for it,” he said.
