Neerim score win and draw

Neerim District Bowling Club had one win and a draw on Saturday.

Playing away against Traralgon RSL, the division two results came down to the last end – and finished in a draw.

Division two: Neerim District drew Traralgon RSL (2) 90/90.

Peter Throup (skip), Pat FraserAuri­sch, Karren Sheers and Gerry Engelstad lost to Brendon Smiles’ team 24/27.

The game was tight early, with Neerim trailing by two on the seventh end before picking up six on the next two ends. Neerim continued to pick up multiples and led by 11 on the 15th end. RSL turned things around and went on to win the next five ends, including successive fours. Neerim trailed 22/23 on the 20th end. RSL won three of the last five ends to win by three shots.

Trevor Kuhnell (skip), Peter Brooks, Tony Thornton and Ray Throup defeated Margaret Morley’s team 25/15.

Neerim eased ahead early only for RSL to pick up five in two ends to hit the lead. The game continued to be tight, with scores level on the 13th end. Neerim started to get the upper hand and led by five on the 17th end.

They continued their run, winning six of the last eight ends to win by 10 shots.

Ray Watts (skip), Ross Pollard, Jim Fallon and Colin McKay lost to Ron Osler’s team 14/31.

Neerim was down 0/8 after four ends put picked up seven on the next two ends before levelling on the eighth end. RSL eased ahead to lead by five at the break. The rest of the game was a procession, with Neerim winning just one of the last nine ends as RSL powered away to a 17-shot win.

Neil Adams (skip), Angus McGillivra­y, Chris Hogan and Graeme Wingrove defeated George Gibbins’ team 27/17.

Another tight game early, with Neerim up by three on the seventh end before RSL won five on the trot to lead by six. Neerim responded, winning five of the next six ends to lead by five on the 18th end. Neerim continued to pick up multiples, while only conceding singles, to win by 10 shots.

Division five: Neerim District (2) defeated Morwell (4) 74/62.

Greg Bond (skip), Thelma Schroeder, John Rochford and Desmond Pelly lost to Danny McKeown’s team 22/23.

Neerim started well but dropped a five on the third end. By the 10th end, Neerim led by two. Morwell won five in a row to lead by six before further easing ahead to lead by eight on the 19th end. Neerim fought back, picking up twos and threes to level at 22all on the penultimat­e end. Neerim held shots on the last end until the Morwell skip trailed the jack to give them one shot and the game.

Russell Meehan (skip), Roger Till, Neville Cousins and Wes Ellis defeated Robert Lorenz’s team 28/19.

Neerim had a shocker of a start to be 1/9 after eight ends. Neerim got their act together and started a great comeback, winning 10 of the next 12 ends, including a six, to lead by 15 on the 20th end. Morwell stemmed the flow, winning four of the last five ends, but it was Neerim by nine shots.

Jim Schroeder (skip), George Rymer, Kay Cousins and Gerald Winter defeated Ian Wilson’s team 24/20.

Neerim started well but dropped a five on the seventh end to trail by one. Scores were level at 10-all on the 12th end. A six to Neerim gave them the lead which they held to the 23rd end. A four to Morwell on the penultimat­e end got them within two but Neerim got a two for a four-shot win.
