United juniors too strong

-

Under 12 South East Melbourne

Warragul United Under 12’s travelled down to Pakenham United on Sunday.

The deadlock was broken after Harrison danced around a defender on the right and was brought down in a tackle. Harrison drove the resulting free kick low and hard through the wall and it deflected off a defender into the goal.

The next ten minutes was a tight affair with Archie working hard to control the middle of the ground. Pakenham started to get their counterattack game happening, forcing Remy into some neat saves, with one diving parry to his left particularly impressive.

Strong running by Ethan and Julian as well as some excellent passing between the two of them kept Pakenham at bay for some time, until eventually they created a great chance and tied the scores 1-1 to end the half.

The second half began with both teams running and tackling hard with great passing, but no clear chances. Frankie kept trying to push the ball forward and was making good space for the midfielders. Max was busy at right back and stopped many Pakenham attacks and then linked well with Henry down the right as Warragul started to take control.

This led to a powerful lead from Mak and shot on goal that was saved by the goalkeeper, but great running down the left from Zeal meant that the opportunity didn’t go to waste as he buried the goal. Some excellent teamwork and passing brought Warragul forward again and Lukas turned the ball back for Mak to smash the ball into the top corner.

Pakenham kept pushing but the defensive unit of Ethan, Max and Hamish kept intercepting and playing the ball into the midfield. The exclamation mark was put on the game when Lukas ran onto a great through ball from Harrison and deftly tucked it into the corner when one on one with the goalkeeper. Final score 4 – 1 Warragul.

Under 12 Girls South East Melbourne Team The under 12 girls team had a great win against Brighton Blue Bolts, with all players listening and learning from their coaches and working well as a team. Olivia Jacobs was strong in goals with some great saves. The goals were scored by several players showing the great team effort. Final Score: Warragul 6 – Brighton 2. Goal scorers Audrey Graafsma 2, Maddie Buhagiar, Sierra Colantuono, Elizabeth Kuol, Georgia Nankervis.

Under 16 Boys South East Melbourne Team On Sunday May 2nd, bottom of the table Whitehorse played host to a Warragul United side looking for their third straight victory.

United started strongly and applied significant pressure to the Whitehorse defence, with their forwards harassing the opposition at every opportunity and allowing them no time to compose themselves.

The first goal came after some good play down the United left wing. Jacob Cheney crossed into the box to Darcy Spencer, who hit the post, only for Tristan Silver to put away the rebound.

Another great left-wing cross, this time from Jake Struthers, found Tristan Silver again to make the score 2-0.

It wasn't long until Silver scored again, although this time it was a magnificent solo effort, a jinking run from inside his own half, combined with a neat finish, completed the hattrick with barely 20 minutes played.

Whitehorse simply had no response to the red and black onslaught, as chance after chance was made down the United left wing and it was from that same outlet that the fourth goal arrived, with Finley Lock calmly placing a finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

United also looked dangerous from set pieces and it was a perfectly weighted corner that dropped to the foot of Darcy Spencer to make it 5-0.

This was truly a match of two halves, with Whitehorse putting on a much better showing after the break, although they never really looked likely of mounting a comeback.

Despite their improvement, it was still United who had the best chances with Jake Struthers hitting the woodwork twice and James Short missing a penalty. Final score Warragul 6 – Whitehorse 0.
