Duo kick ten in Gulls win

It is not often that you are able to win a game of football with only two individual goal scorers.

But that was the case for the Warragul Reserves at Sale on Saturday as Jamie Somers and Brad Coates had a field day in front of the big sticks.

The pair combined for 10 goals between them as the Gulls won 10-14 (74) to 10-2 (62).

Scott Kelly, Tim Davine, Patrick Mulqueen, Bernard Lafferty and Lachlan Miller were also named among the best for the Gulls.

In other Reserves matches Moe held Bairnsdale scoreless to win 9-8 (62) to nil, Wonthaggi accounted for Morwell 8-7 (55) to 4-3 (27) and Traralgon were comfortabl­e over Maffra 9-10 (64) to 6-9 (45).

Seven goals from Vinnie Caia was in a losing cause for Warragul’s under 18s.

Trailing by just four points at the final change, the Gulls fell away in the final term as Sale booted five goals to one to win 14-7 (91) to 9-8 (62).

Rhys Galvin, Liam Serong, Kai

McLean, Jasper Alger and Joseph Curtis also helped keep the Gulls in the contest.

Bairnsdale held on to defeat Moe by just one goal, 10-7 (67) to 9-7 (61), while other matches were one-sided affairs. Traralgon comfortabl­y accounted for Maffra 12-16 (88) to 4-10 (34) while Morwell thumped Wonthaggi 18-9 (117) to 2-1 (13).

Warragul started its day brightly with a strong win over Sale in the under 16s, 8-16 (64) to 2-9 (21).

The Gulls kicked four goals to nil in the first term and maintained control throughout.

Harry Brown, Lane Ward, Ethan Marson, Jaxon Delahaye-Smith, Lachlan Smith and Bailey Rainford were named as the best players.

In other matches Bairnsdale defeated Moe 9-6 (60) to 6-6 (42), Wonthaggi accounted for Morwell 8-6 (54) to 4-1 (25) and Traralgon overcame Maffra 9-9 (63) to 3-4 (22).
