Nar Nar Goon vs Bunyip

Nar Nar Goon have continued their stellar start to the season downing Bunyip 14.11 (95) to 12.13 (85) at Bunyip.

It was a fast-finishing Bulldogs side, who found themselves jumped at the start, trailing by 26 points at the first break and 47 points at halftime.

Nar Nar Goon were flying but the Bulldogs showed their trademark bite in the second half, clawing their way back into the contest with a four goal to zero third term and it could have been closer, with the side kicking 4.6, missing a few opportunities.

They continued to pile on the pressure in the final term, eating away at the margin and looking to complete the miracle comeback, however it was too little too late for the side, falling 10 points short in a brilliant game.

For Nar Nar Goon, Troy McDermott continued his strong run of form with three goals, while Trent Noy booted three, Trent Armour two, Shannon Stocco two with Jake Smith also booting a couple.

Armour was best afield for the Goon, alongside Ryan Bromley, Flynn Parker, Brendan Hermann, McDermott and Anthony Young.

The Bulldogs were close, but not close enough in the match, however found some good form from Will Papley in a best on ground effort, with Ben Stewart, Ashleigh Allen, Jye Keath and Jeb McLeod also playing solid roles for the side.

Papley kicked two, as did Jackson Dalton and Agape Patulo to round out the multiple goal kickers.

Garfield v Cora Lynn

Garfield’s unbeaten run has ended with Cora Lynn running out 14.9 (93) to 9.12 (66).

The game was tight in the early going, both sides peppering the scoreboard in the first term, with Cora Lynn holding a slender sixpoint advantage.

But they put the foot down, kicking five goals to one to lead by 29 points, blowing the match wide open. They never looked back.

They were briefly challenged by the Stars in the third quarter, but Matt Robinson and Jaxon Briggs ensured the Cobras staved off any comeback, eventually helping their side to a 27-point win.

Briggs was best on ground for Cora Lynn, with Ash Williams contributing all afternoon alongside Chris Johnson, Robert Hill, James McKenzie and Tim Payne.

Robinson led the way for the side in front of goal booting four, Briggs added three and Travis Woodfield a couple in the win.

For the Stars, they leant on the work of Matt Rennie up forward, the big man booting four majors to be the only multiple goal kicker for Garfield.

Michael Wallace turned in a terrific performance, as did Jayden Goumas who continues to star for the side this season. Rennie, Zac Soutar, Sam Batson and Tanner Stanton rounded out the best for the Stars in the loss. Warragul Industrials v Korumburra Bena The Dusties were back on the winners’ list, easily accounting for Korumburra-Bena 14.11 (95) to 5.5 (35).

It was a tale of two halves for the side, who went into quarter time down by seven points before kicking themselves into gear to lead by just nine at halftime.

After the main break they pushed on without a hitch, the 10 goal to two second half setting up the 60-point victory.

Jackson Mockett was unstoppable in front of goal for the Dusties, booting four majors in a telling display, with ample support coming from Darren Granger (three goals) and Anthony Bruhn who also booted three in the win.

Will Gibson backed up his best on ground performance last week with another, beginning to show some scintillating form for the Dusties as they continue to show improvement under new coach Harmit Singh.

Granger was terrific for the side as was Jack Griffiths again, with Mockett, Bruhn and Kane Taylor all having their say on the result with good performances to sit in the best players.

For Korumburra-Bena, it’s back to the drawing board as they fell away in a disappointing second half, Rhys Dixon the only multiple goal kicker for the Giants with two.

Darcy Hargrave was best afield, followed by Jordan Hill, Cory Hargrave, Jye Celebrine, Matthew Lello and Jack Spencer.

In the other matches, Inverloch-Kongwak easily defeated Dalyston by 83 points, Phillip Island put the pain to the Demons, smashing Koo Wee Rup by a whopping 170 points, and Tooradin-Dalmore were too good for Kilcunda Bass, defeating them by 25 points.
