Coin collection
Drouin Rotary Club will continue its project of raising funds through the collection of foreign coins in support for the Rotary Foundation - the charity arm of Rotary International.
This project went public at the club’s produce and craft market in April, after which Rotarian Ian Symons announced that 8.5 kg of assorted coins had been donated. The opportunity will be there again at the next market on Saturday.
The idea is to give those who have travelled overseas and have returned with small quantities of foreign coins too low in value to convert back to Australian dollars, the opportunity to donate them to Rotary so that the consolidated value becomes convertible.
A receptacle will be available at the Rotary barbecue shelter, and members of the public are invited to locate any foreign coins they may have, and bring them along to the market on that day. Rotarian Terry Blundell will be on hand to assist.
Funds raised from this project will support local and overseas Rotary programs in the fields of education, health and humanitarian services.
