Group hear from mayor at meeting
The Baw Baw Neighbourhood Watch group have heard from Shire mayor Danny Goss at a recent meeting held in April.
Mr Goss spoke to the crowd of 20 people on recent developments in the area and the new ‘savvy seniors’ program, the initiative put together by the council with assistance from the neighbourhood watch group.
The new program is about helping seniors be savvy in keeping their homes safe in a fastchanging world. He also touched on the achievements and challenges faced in the Shire.
Originally Mr Goss was meant to speak earlier in the year, but COVID meant the meeting wasn’t permitted to go ahead.
Leading senior constable Paula Fowler was also in attendance and gave an update on crime in the Baw Baw Area, with the opportunity to ask questions after her report.
The Baw Baw Neighbourhood Watch group encompasses Warragul and Drouin, with secretary treasurer David Piggin hoping to see more people join the group, with 14 currently active.
Mr Piggen began the group in Warragul in 1998 after hearing about the organisation from his father-in-law and thought it would be beneficial for the community in Baw Baw.
The group is one that helps educate people on safety and security in the area, while also giving many the opportunity to meet others in a social environment.
They meet every quarter, with the next meeting a dinner at Siam Pesto on July 13 with those interested in the group invited to attend.
On Saturday they will be hosting an “Operation Safe Plate” community event, allowing community members to fit one-way screws to their number plates. It will take place from 9am-12pm at the Mason St car park in Warragul.
For more information on the group, or how to join contact David Piggin on 0419 137 315, Steve Pascoe on 0409 256 090.
