Stern recognised for new season award

-

The Warragul Football Club presented a new award at the beginning of the season in honour of former Gulls player, Brendon Noy.

Noy, who died in a tragic car accident in 2018, played juniors at the club and had a passion to see the side succeed.

The new Rising Star Award, which is presented to a junior player who has progressed from the under 18s to senior football is a new award sponsored by Brendon’s family.

Club president Michael Ireland said the award was one that will now be presented before each season commences.

“Brendon loved the club and Michelle (Brendon’s mum) wanted to help out. We went outside the box and decided on presenting the award to a player for sticking with their club and one who shows determination from juniors into seniors. The $500 will help them with fees and other costs,” Mr Ireland said.

This season the award when to Charlie Stern, with Mr Ireland praising Charlie’s efforts and commitment to the club.

“He’s one of the most committed and determined players. He’s very loyal and has all the qualities of a great young man and he has been rewarded for that,” Mr Ireland said.
