Gulls compete well but lose in reserves

-

Jamie Somers was without his partner in crime in the Reserves at Western Park on Sunday.

It may well have been the difference as Warragul went down to Moe in a competitive match, 6-10 (46) to 4-8 (32).

Having combined with Brad Coates for 10 goals in a stunning victory at Sale last week, Somers was again a key target in attack and booted all four goals for the Gulls.

The Lions got their break in the second term, booting three goals in a low scoring match.

Lucas Monacella, Robert Gilligan, William Cole, Tim

Davine and Sam Dennis helped the Gulls in their competitive effort.

In other matches Morwell defeated Leongatha by 11 points while Maffra and Traralgon scored big wins.

A slow start proved costly as Warragul went down to Moe in the thirds, 11-15 (81) to 5-6 (36).

The Gulls outscored the Lions across the final three quarters of the match but had given up a seven-goal start to the visitor.

Ben Cunico, Austin Williamson, Luke Garner, Patrick Ireland, Liam Serong and Joseph Curtis were the best players for the home team.

Other winners were Maffra, Traralgon and Leongatha.

Warragul were big winners in the fourths, scoring consistently to defeat Moe 22-18 (150) to 4-4 (28).

Patrick Ireland, Jaxon Delahaye-Smith and Kyle Baker combined for 13 goals as the Gulls steered through eight majors in the first term, six goals in the second and five in the third as the margin climbed north of 100 points.

Lane Ward, Luke Garner and Ethan Marson were also among the better players in the big win.

Maffra, Traralgon and Leongatha also scored wins.
