Dusties v Dalyston

The Warragul Industrials have made light work of Dalyston in their match up on Saturday, downing the Magpies 19.9 (123) to 1.5 (11) at home.

The Dusties were the only side to score in what was a slow first term, but they kick started their afternoon as Matthew Debenham took hold up forward, however they weren’t able to break the game open.

Halftime came and the Dusties used that to reset, knowing they were well on top in the contest, just not on the scoreboard. The third term proved the one that made sure of the victory, as they booted six unanswered goals to dominate the term and kick away.

By the time the final siren sounded, they had blown the margin past 100 points in a stunning second half domination of Dalyston, who seemed to run out of legs in the final term, allowing nine goals.

Matt Debenham was the star of the day, kicking six goals in a best on ground performance, but had ample support from Jackson Mockett who booted four goals for the second week in a row, and Anthony Bruhn who kicked three in the win. Braydon Hefford and Will Gibson also chipped in with two majors each.

Alongside Debenham, Corey Micari was fantastic for the side, while the ever reliable Shane Brewster was also a big factor in the win. Mockett, Jack Griffiths and Kyle Beveridge were the other notable stand outs in the victory.

For Dalyston, they had just the one goal kicker with Blake Carew the only man able to steer one through the big sticks. Clay Tait was named best on ground, with Brendan Walsh, Nathan Wals, Brad Monson and Ethan Ford the other players of note for Dalyston in the heavy loss.

Garfield v Koo Wee Rup

A final quarter burst from the Stars have seen them roar past Koo Wee Rup 13.13 (91) to 8.6 (54) on Saturday.

An inaccurate Garfield side could have put the game away much earlier but saw themselves leading by just 10 at halftime and seven at three quarter time, before a big final term made sure they were the ones who came out on top.

They kicked six goals to one in the last quarter to defeat the Demons, with Ryan Hillard getting loose up forward to boot three goals, while Matt Rennie, Ned Marsh and Sam

Batson all booted two in the win that puts Garfield in a great position after a month of football.

Jayden Goumas continued his brilliant form with another best on performance and found support from teammates Ethan Sauze, Lachlan Schreurs, Ryan Hillard, Sam Batson and Zac Soutar who all produced terrific games for the Stars.

Koo Wee Rup will rue the missed opportunity after trailing by just seven points at the final break, Nathan Voss was on fire up forward with five majors, while Tim Miller, Mitch Cammarano, Voss, Travis Bindley and Jason Stokkel playing well to be named in the best.

Nar Nar Goon v Cora Lynn

The Goon have used a massive first quarter to defeat the Cobras 14.9 (93) to 9.10 (64) to further solidify they are one of the favourites in 2021.

They raced to a five goal to none lead in the first term and never looked back, despite a small challenge from Cora Lynn in the second term, which saw the margin cut to 14 points.

Nar Nar Goon then did enough in the second half to stave off any sort of comeback as they rocketed to third on the ladder behind rivals Garfield after the first month.

Brendan Hermann booted four goals in the victory, Troy McDermott two and Mitch Virtue also two in a good spread of goalkickers for the side.

Ryan Bromley was brilliant for the Goon, dominating across the four quarters to help keep his side ahead after the strong start, with Hermann, Trent Armour, Sam Blackwood, Jake Blackwood and Mitch Virtue the other major factors in the victory.

Cora Lynn challenged in the second term but weren’t able to keep their momentum going after halftime, with Nathan Gardiner booting three goals and Tristan FernandezPhillips chipping in with two.

Rob Hill was best afield for the Cobras in the loss. He had great support from Chris Johnson, Fernandez-Phillips and Tim Payne, but it wasn’t enough to drag themselves back into the contest.

In the other games, Inverloch-Kongwak sit on top of the ladder thanks to a 44-point win over Kilcunda-Bass, Phillip Island had another enormous win, this time over Bunyip by 155 points to see their percentage sky high, while Tooradin-Dalmore defeated Korumburra by 59 points.
