Have input into new civic precinct design

-

Two community members are being sought to join a project reference group to help guide design, advocacy and delivery of a $30 million civic precinct and library facility.

The Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct aims to provide a state-of-the-art library and community facility in the heart of Warragul.

The project is dependent on federal and state government funding. Council has already submitted a number of funding applications.

Council’s current budget includes an allocation for development of early concept designs.

The PRG will include 14 representatives from key community and business groups, council and industry representatives.

Council is seeking to include members of the community to ensure a fair and equitable representation of local voices.

The group’s role is to provide local insights, contribute to discussions and provide recommendations to council in the spirit of achieving the best project outcome.

The PRG will meet on a semi-regular basis to consider and discuss issues as they arise during all stages of the project.

The scope for the project includes a multi-level facility with new community library with reading/study zones, a gallery and cultural space, community meeting rooms, co-working areas, cafe, rooftop terrace - all with accessible amenities, underground car parking and pedestrian connections to surrounds.

Mayor Michael Leaney said it was a great opportunity to be involved in council’s largest ever single project, which would have a positive impact on the community for generations to come.

He said the project was the largest in council’s history valued at $30 million and aims to address the lack of community facilities and ageing and underutilised community spaces.

“We want to bring our community on this journey and make sure local voices are heard throughout each stage of this project.

“If you’re looking for an opportunity to make a direct impact on a major piece of community infrastructure, we would love to hear from you,” he said.

Community members wanting to submit an expression of interest can send their contact details and a brief explanation why they are a suitable to major.projects@bawbawshire.vic. gov.au by February 11.
