Longwarry building its winning form

Longwarry had a convincing 60-shot win over Neerim District in division two on Saturday.

The game at Longwarry was the usual enjoyable contest between the two clubs.

Division six hosted Trafalgar and also had a great win, getting up by 32 shots.

Division two: Longwarry 131 defeated Neerim District 71.

Elio Meggetto, Barry White, Jason Lieshout and Ken White (skip) defeated Ross Pollard’s team 35/11.

Neerim won the first three ends and looked to be in for a big day, but the Longwarry team had other ideas and totally dominated the remainder of the game. They won 19 of the last 23 ends to have a 24-shot win.

Peter Lieshout, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated Angus McGillavra­y’s team 40/11.

Longwarry settled into the game the best and, after picking up a five on end eight, led by 13 shots. Neerim won three ends in a row from end 15 and looked to be coming back. However, the Longwarry team won the last eight ends to record a convincing 29-shot win.

Simon Counsel, Mark Serong, Hank Metselaar and Kenneth Towt (skip) defeated Ray Watt’s team 30/22.

The “Dream Team” found themselves under pressure from Neerim and, at the halfway mark, were three shots down. After the break, Longwarry got a four and never looked back, recording an eight-shot win.

Glenn Pask, Rob Proctor, John McCarthy and Matt Eccles (skip) lost to Peter Throup’s team 26/27.

This match was a ripper all day with several lead changes. With the scores tied after end 23 and the crowd forming after all the other games had finished, Longwarry picked up a three to take a three-shot lead into the last end. However, the Neerim side put in a great last end. The skip added with his last bowl to get a four and win the game by one shot.

Division six: Longwarry 66 defeated Trafalgar 34.

Debbie Parker, Paul Buckner, John O’Shea and Gerard “Hogg” Mitchell (skip) defeated Noel Moreland’s team 45/10.

The Longwarry team with “Hogg” turning back the clock, got off to a flyer and after 10 ends were 27/1 up. The remainder of the match was much the same, with Longwarry in total control and winning by 35 shots.

Lorna Sheedy, Sharon Twite, Graeme Hanks and Vicki Hanks (skip) lost to Patricia Tatterson’s team 21/24.

This rink was a tight game all day with several lead changes. By end 22, Longwarry had a three-shot lead. Trafalgar fought back well, picking up six shots in the last three ends to win by three shots.
