Drouin cling to top four

Drouin is clinging to fourth place on the ladder despite a loss to fifth placed Morwell Club in division one on Saturday.

Division one: Drouin lost to Morwell Club 77/91.

Stephen Barr, David Tayles, Mick Fleming and Samantha Atkinson (skip) lost to Rodney Smith’s team 20/21. Graeme Aubrey, Maureen Leighton, Les Firth and Sheryl Atkinson (skip) defeated Glenn Trembath’s team 27/21. Denise Hamilton, Arthur Moore, Dale Hendrick and Toby Wallace (skip) lost to Robert Noblett’s team 15/24. David McIlfatric­k, Janice Aubrey, John Leighton and Mark Atkinson (skip) lost to Brett Harle’s team 15/25.

Division two: Drouin (2) defeated Thorpdale 114/71.

Don Mowat, Lyn Jeffrey, Clive Newman and Colin Jeffrey (skip) defeated Ross Kennedy’s team 35/14. John Bickerdike, Mary Firth, Neil Bullen and Phil Jarred (skip) defeated Danny Vanzuylen’s team 37/19. Jim Purvis, Merv Appleyard, Andrew Kidd and Bruce Andrews (skip) lost to Benjamin Powell’s team 18/21. Elaine Thorpe, Andre De Waele, Rudy Kerkvliet and Brian Thorpe (skip) defeated Brendan Jennings’ team 24/17.

Division four: Drouin (3) lost to Traralgon (4) 49/127.

Max Hine, Ron Westrup, Gerald Wakefield and Margaret Owens (skip) lost to John Richardson’s team 19/31. Ian Haughton, Sep Van Maanen, Robert Cole and Peter Hone (skip) lost to Stuart Hulse’s team 12/29. Bev Walsh, Wayne Walsh, Richard Joyner and Ethel Van Maanen (skip) lost to Terry Lawrence’s team 7/35. Peter McGrath, Dini Hone, Mary Andrews and Gwen Price (skip) lost to Ian Wills’ team 11/32.

Midweek

The weather was not to blame for Drouin’s dismal week of one win, a walkover and two losses.

Division one: Drouin defeated Warragul 69/45.

Denise Hamilton’s team of Dennis Throup, Jan Aubrey and Graeme Aubrey won 30/12 to be this week’s best rink winners with 18 shots up. Sheryl Atkinson’s team of Mark Atkinson, Elaine Thorpe and Ron Westrup drew 18/18. Maureen Leighton team of Les Firth, John Leighton and Ruth Waring won 21/15.

Division two: Drouin (2) lost to Morwell (2) 48/63.

Mary Andrews’ team of Brian Thorpe, Mary Firth and Andrew Blaby lost 20/27. Margaret Owens’ team of Irene Dawson, Andre De Waele and Necip Akarsu lost 15/18. Lyn Jeffrey’s team of David Tayles, Margaret Rhodes and Clive Newman lost 13/18.

Division three: Drouin (3) versus Warragul (3). Drouin received a walkover because Warragul could not field a team. Four points were awarded by the associatio­n to each team instead of the eight points normally awarded for a walkover.

Division four: Drouin (4) lost to Morwell Club (3) 25/53.

Ethel Van Maanen’s team of Sep Van Maanen, Peter McGrath and Helen Kerkvliet lost 17/18. Maureen Brunet’s team of Wayne Walsh, Ian Haughton and Pat Yeo lost 8/35.
