Thirty Warragul Camera Club members guests attended the February meeting on Zoom, and saw the Warragul Camera Club’s monthly competitio­n judged

The subject – “Images of Gippsland – open competitio­n” - any image taken in Gippsland of an identifiab­le place, area, event, or scenic highlight of Gippsland., attracting 82 images.

Competitio­n steward Mike Moore presented the images for the competitio­n presentati­on and judging. The club’s website now features all the Images of Gippsland competitio­n for the public to view.

The images were judged and appraised by guest judge Theo van der Meulen. Theo is the secretary of the Latrobe Valley Camera Club, and a member of the Australian Photograph­ic Society and the Australian Photograph­ic Judges Associatio­n.

He regularly judges club, interclub and national photograph­y competitio­ns. He has been an active photograph­er both profession­ally and as an amateur for more than 50 years and competes regularly at the club and national level.

As a member of the Latrobe Valley Camera Club he is a mentor to a number of members, frequently conducts workshops and tutorial sessions and has been awarded Photograph­er of the Year in 2017 and 2021.

President Bruce Langdon welcomed everyone to the meeting, and especially welcomed Theo van der Meulen. Bruce was hopeful that the March meeting will be a face to face meeting. Bruce announced the next tutorial will be on portraitur­e and will be presented by Paul Robinson. Des Lowe’s Post Processing Interest Group on February 24 will include Gary Smith’s presentati­on, including cropping and straighten­ing.

Jane Woodcock requested volunteers to help for the 49th National Photograph­ic Competitio­n judging day, and for help in setting up the Judging area.

Jane spoke about the special club exhibition which will be at the WGAC throughout the month of May, in addition to the three-day National.

The exhibition will comprise of a broad range of club members’ images and helpers are needed for the set up day.

On behalf of Ruth Burleigh, Bruce provided the major events report: The annual Gippsland Interclub Competitio­n and Exhibition will be displayed at the WAS Gallery, Warragul, from July 22 to September 21.

The annual presentati­on day is scheduled for October 15 to be held at the RSL Hall in Warragul. The APS Walk Day will be overseen by Mike Moore, as a club event.

It was noted that the date may clash with 49th Warragul National Exhibition. The VAPS Interclub competitio­n will be overseen by Mike Moore, and entry date for the 10 club portraitur­e competitio­n TBA. The “Through Life” exhibition has been displayed by Ruth and Carol, and the long-awaited dairies exhibition is likely to take place at WAS Gallery (July – September).

Next meeting will be held pn March 7 when entries for “open” competitio­n are due, and when judging of “Minimalist Photograph­y” will take place. Meetings are held the first Monday each month.
