Croquet tournament

Drouin Croquet Club’s annual Golf Croquet Handicap Tournament was held recently with seven clubs represented.

Drouin club president Bob Quayle had success, topping the division two results at the event.

After having to be postponed due to COVID-19 regulations in September, the club was pleased to see the “2021” tournament held with play over two days.

Represented clubs at the tournament were Sale, Wonthaggi, Lakes Entrance, Morwell, Warragul, Mornington and Drouin.

Playing conditions were difficult on the Saturday due to strong easterly winds. The wind dissipated on Sunday and conditions became quite hot. However, this did not deter players competing fiercely for the prizes on offer at the end of the two days.

In division one, Mornington Club’s John Carr (handicap six) won seven of the eight games played with nett 15 hoops. This was a good effort and resulted in a handicap reduction to five.

Three players had five wins in the battle for the runner-up prize. Morwell’s Penny Morrison-McGill (handicap eight) finished nett -2 and Wonthaggi’s Tom Lacey (handicap six) had nett 5, but taking out second place was Wonthaggi’s Neil Warburton (handicap 6) with nett 8 hoops.

In division two, two players finished with six winning games from eight played.

Bob Quayle (handicap 11) won with six wins and a score of nett 17 hoops. Janine Sisson of Mornington (handicap 11) was runner-up with nett 11 hoops, breaking her handicap to 10.

Speaking as president, Bob thanked sponsors of the tournament and said he hoped to see all players return later in the year for the 2022 event.
