Longwarry record two wins

Both Longwarry teams travelled to Thorpdale on Saturday and appreciate­d the warm hospitalit­y that the home team provided - including an airdrop of snacks at the break.

Division two got over the line by eight shots and division six won by 15 shots to complete a successful day for the club.

Division two: Longwarry 97 defeated Thorpdale 89

Elio Meggetto, Barry White, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated Ross Kennedy’s team 24/17.

The Longwarry team got off to a flyer, winning 10 of the first 13 ends to lead 20/4 at the break. Thorpdale came out and won nine of the last 12 ends, but the Longwarry team held on for a seven-shot win.

John McCarthy, Peter Lieshout, Grant Pask and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated Scott Jennings’ team 27/23.

This match was a great contest all day, with scores level seven times. After 23 ends, Thorpdale had a two-shot lead. Longwarry dug deep and played some good team bowls, picking up three shots on the last two ends, to win a tight game by four shots.

Glenn Pask, Mark Serong, Simon Counsel and Kenneth Towt (skip) lost to Ben Powell’s team 23/31.

Longwarry started well and had an eight-shot lead after end eight. However, Thorpdale came out and won 10 of the next 11 ends to lead by 13 shots. Longwarry won a few ends late in the game to help the overall score, but Thorpdale were too strong, winning by eight shots.

John O’Shae, Rob Proctor, Hank Metselaar, and Matt Eccles (skip) defeated Brendan Jennings’ team 23/18.

After a tight contest early, Longwarry had a good run from end nine to lead by 12 shots after 19 ends.

Thorpdale won the last six ends, but couldn’t get the big numbers with

Longwarry holding on to win by five shots.

Division six: Longwarry (2) 59 defeated Thorpdale (2) 44

Debbie Parker, Sharon Twite, Sean Garrity, and Gerard “Hogg” Mitchell (skip) defeated Jeff Savige’s team 24/22.

Longwarry got off to a good start and, with Sharon bowling well, got off to an eight-shot lead by end 10. Thorpdale came back to take the lead by end 14. Longwarry counterpun­ched and by end 20 had a seven-shot lead and managed to hang on to win by two shots in an entertaini­ng game.

Graeme Hanks, Lorna Sheedy, Paul Buckner and Mark “Boofa” Light (Skip) defeated Graham Jennings’ team 35/22.

After a late withdrawal, Boofa stood up to take the reins as skip. After an even game early, Longwarry picked up some big numbers in the middle of the match to set up a convincing 13-shot win.
