Aggravated burglaries part of crime spree

-

Two aggravated burglaries in Warragul and Yarragon last week are related to a series of incidents in Gippsland and metropolitan areas according to police.

After accessing a car in Bluestone Crt, Warragul, offenders used a garage remote key to access the victim's garage and house early Wednesday morning.

Police said offenders stole two sets of keys and a mobile phone from the kitchen bench before stealing an orange Honda Jazz.

The theft occurred between 9pm on Tuesday and 2am the next morning.

Police said offenders driving the Honda attempted to get fuel at the Yarragon United service station at 2.27am but left when instructed to pre-pay by the attendant.

The vehicle was later used in a petrol drive-off from a Newborough service station.

Police said the Honda was seen travelling with a blue Hyundai that had been involved in a petrol drive-off at sale earlier in the night.

The Honda was later recovered in Moe where the victims wallet, cards and second set of keys also were located.

In Yarragon, just after 1am on Wednesday, a man woke to the sound of his side gate opening.

Police said the man went to the back door of his Campbell St house and could see a torch shining in a room off the back patio.

The victim shouted out and saw movement in the room. When he yelled again, two or three offenders ran from the room, out a sliding door and out to the street.

Police said a Nissan X-trail, owned by a neighbour, was parked on the street and the door was left ajar after offenders possibly tried to steal the car.

Police believe offenders also tried to steal two other cars in Yarragon during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The vehicles were parked in Ambrose Crt and Loch St.

The local incidents are believed to be connected to other incidents being investigated by police in the eastern and southern regions.
