Longwarry sits second

Longwarry's division two team overcame a slow start for a 31-shot win over Traralgon in blustery conditions at Longwarry on Saturday.

Division six had a 15-shot overall win over Yallourn North at home to keep their slim finals hopes alive.

Division two: Longwarry 95 defeated Traralgon 64

Elio Meggetto, Barry White, Jason Lieshout and Russell White (skip) defeated Cary Locke's team 27/9.

Longwarry handled the blustering conditions better and got out to an 18/4 lead by the break.

The second half was more competitiv­e, but Longwarry continued to play well as a team to record a comprehens­ive 18-shot win.

Simon Counsel, Peter Lieshout, Ian Peterson and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated David Currie's team 25/11.

In a low scoring match, Longwarry got their noses in front early and continued to play well as a team. They didn't give much away, increasing their lead throughout the day to record a 14-shot win.

Glenn Pask, Mark Serong, Grant Pask and Kenneth Towt (skip) defeated Graham Cross' team 24/20.

Longwarry only managed to win one of the first 10 ends. Traralgon handled the conditions the best and led 15/4.

Longwarry picked up eight shots in three ends just before the break to cut the margin to three shots.

By end 18, Traralgon still had a four-shot lead, but Longwarry started to click as a team.

They powered home, winning the last seven ends to record a great come from behind fourshot win.

Ken White, Rob Proctor, Hank Metselaar and Matt Eccles (skip) lost to Barry Fernace's team 19/24.

This rink was a great contest all day, with the scores level on five different occasions. The last was on end 21, with scores locked at 18-all.

Traralgon picked up six shots in the next three ends to take the game away from Longwarry and win by five shots.

Division six: Longwarry 63 defeated Yallourn North 48

Debbie Parker, Sharon Twite, John O'Shea and Gerard “Hogg" Mitchell (skip) defeated Mark Bentall's team 45/17.

After a fairly even first eight ends, Longwarry picked up a six and a five to take control of the game.

With Deb, Sharon and John giving the Hogg an armchair ride, Longwarry totally outplayed their opposition to win by an impressive 28 shots.

Lorna Sheedy, Sean Garrity, Paul Buckner and Vickie Hanks (skip) lost to Barry Lester's team 18/31.

Longwarry started well, leading by six shots after end six. They dropped the next nine ends in a row to set up Yallourn North's 13-shot win.
