Keep Victoria Beautiful is launching a new Stationeers group at the Warragul Railway Station and is looking for volunteers to help beautify the station.

Representatives from Keep Victoria Beautiful visited the station last week to discuss the program with station manager Paul O’Shannassy.

Under the program volunteers plant and maintain gardens surrounding the station and generally keep the area neat and tidy. The station has a number of existing beds but they are in need of maintenance.

Transit police are investigating an assault on the Drouin Railway Station platform on Friday night.

Police said a 21-year-old Moe man boarded a Melbourne bound train after allegedly being punched to the face and kicked during an attempted robbery.

Police said the man was sitting on the platform when he was approached by a male offender who demanded the victim hand over his bag.

When the victim refused, the offender allegedly punched him in the face.

Ms Lake said there were many examples of the success of the program throughout Victoria including at Drouin.

A Stationeers group has been active at the Drouin station for several years and is currently in need of more volunteers. Ms Lake said where the programs were operating there was less vandalism and littering and the community was keen to see the area well cared for.

She said after regular gardening and maintenance activities the group members often met for coffee. She said it was a great way to combine gardening and maintenance with socialising.

She said such a group in Warragul would be complementary to the historic station.

Ms Lake and Mr Mogford visited the Drouin volunteers last week and also visited a number of other groups on the Gippsland line.

The Stationeers program partners with V/ Line, along with Metro, VicTrack and the Department of Transport.
