Longwarry finish in second spot

-

Longwarry’s division two team travelled to Drouin on Saturday and came away winning three of the four rinks for a comfortable 29-shot win in the final game before the finals.

Division six travelled to Trafalgar and struggled in the conditions, going down by 49 shots in a disappointing end to the season.

Division two: Longwarry 104 defeated Drouin 75

Simon Counsel, Barry White, Jason Lieshout and Russell White (skip) lost to David Tayle’s team 23/27.

Longwarry got off to a flyer to lead 14/1 after seven ends and looked to be heading towards a huge win. But Drouin had other ideas and won nine of the next 10 ends, including a six on end 13, to take a nine-shot lead by end 17. Longwarry tried hard to peg back the margin, but Drouin held on for a four-shot win.

Peter Lieshout, Ian Peterson, Peter Garrett, and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated Brian Thorpe’s team 22/19.

This rink was a great tussle all day, with Longwarry making a run from end 12 to win three ends in a row for a six-shot lead. Drouin fought back to take the lead again by end 21, but Longwarry won four of the last five ends to win by three shots.

Glenn Pask, Mark Serong, Grant Pask and Kenneth Towt (skip) defeated Neil Bullen’s team 22/20.

This rink was also a close game most of the day. When Drouin got out to a six-shot lead after 20 ends, things looked grim for Longwarry. The Longwarry boys rallied and picked up 10 shots in four ends, including a six on end 22, to get over the line by two shots in a great contest.

John McCarthy, Rob Proctor, Rob Hirst, and Matt Eccles (skip) defeated Bruce Andrew’s team 37/9.

After five ends, the scores were all tied up. However, Longwarry totally dominated the remainder of the game, winning 17 of the next 20 ends to record an outstanding 29-shot win.

Division six: Longwarry 24 lost to Trafalgar 73

Debbie Parker, Sharon Twite, John O’Shea and Gerard “Hogg” Mitchell (skip) lost to Tony Mitchinson’s team 12/28.

The Longwarry team got off to a good start and was three shots up after end 11. But Trafalgar totally dominated the remainder of the game. They only allowed Longwarry to score another two shots and picking up 31 themselves, to win by 26 shots.

Lorna Sheedy, Paul Buckner, Ellio Meggetto and Vickie Hanks (skip) lost to Gregor Sethton’s team 12/35.

Trafalgar took an early lead and continued to increase that lead throughout the day to record a convincing 23-shot win.
