Three championships decided
Three more championship events have been decided at Warragul Bowling Club over the past fortnight.
The respective B grade singles events were played alongside each other last Sunday.
It saw the unusual scenario where husband and wife Greg and Glynis Mitchell took on partners Brent Grigg and Sharon Bull.
Over the first six ends, Sharon got two fours and a one while Glynis got three threes to see the scores tied at nine-all. Sharon won the next two ends before Glynis won the next four to lead 14/12.
Scores were tied at 16-all after 18 ends, before Glynis got one, three and one to lead 21/16. Sharon bounced back with three, two and three to go to 24, and she was now in the box seat.
Not to be outdone, Glynis had four brilliant bowls on the next end to get to the required 25 shots.
In the men’s final, it was two-all after four ends before Brent got four. Greg bounced back with the next four ends to lead 9/6.
Brent won four in a row to go to 13/9. Greg got one but Brent won another four in a row to lead 20/10. The next four ends saw Brent get three and Greg five to take the score to 23/16.
Brent was close to victory, but Greg wouldn’t lie down. Greg won the next four ends to go to 21/23. Brent got the two he needed on the next end to win the title.
These were two entertaining and obviously close games, with all four players playing good bowls.
The final of the women’s 100 up was played last week between Janette Gallasch and Gabrielle Draisma.
There was a handicap difference, with Janette giving four head start. The first six ends were very even and it saw the two players tied at seven-all.
Gabrielle got 21/9 over the next three ends to lead 28/16, before Janette got 10 to make it 26/28.
The next seven ends saw Gabrielle get 37 to 33. Gabrielle got 15/5 on the next two ends to extend the gap to a game high 16 points.
Janette scored 30 to 20 over the last five ends but the horse had bolted and Gabrielle held on for a well earned 100/94 win. It was a very entertaining and close game, and both played well.
