Good Friday fun run

-

Get running to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital with the Baw Baw Runners' Good Friday Run at Rokeby Trail.

In its second year, the fun run will offer an 18km run, 10km run/walk and a 6km run/walk from 9am on Friday.

A range of family fun activities will run in conjunction, with an Easter egg hunt, egg and spoon race and best dressed competition.

Organisers Corey Milner and Sally Theobald said last year's inaugural fun run was pulled together during COVID at short notice but still attracted 60 runners and raised $2500 for the Yarragon Good Friday Appeal.

Taking advantage of the scenic Rokeby Rail Trail, the inclusion of family friendly activities and with place getter and spirit prizes on offer, the duo are aiming for more participants and a greater amount raised for an important cause.

Corey said last year saw participants join from Melbourne and Sale, as well as many locals.

Whilst fundraising for the hospital is the focus, encouraging all ages and abilities to get out and active is an extra bonus.

Sally, who is keen to promote running and the Baw Baw Runners, was happy to see many locals out on tracks running or walking during COVID lockdowns and encouraged them to keep going.

The group currently has 60 to 100 members, with groups running several days per week rain, hail or shine.

"There's so many different age groups, different types of runners, we cater for everybody," Sally said, urging interested people to follow the group on social media.

Registrations on Good Friday open at 8am, with kids activities kicking off at 8.30am.

The 18km run is $45 and begins at 9am, 10km run/walk is $35 and begins at 9.30am and 6km run/walk is $20 and begins at 9.45am, giving participants plenty of time to get active before heading off to Easter festivities.
