Hawke takes out top honours in athletics
Trafalgar High School held its annual Athletics Day recently at Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Newborough.
Students celebrated the event by donning their house colours - either red, blue, green, or yellow - and competing against each other in an effort to bring their house victory.
Those students who win first place in an event also have the opportunity to compete in the West Gippsland Division Athletics competition in August.
School sports co-ordinator Kristy Dunstan said both staff and students had a good day.
“The kids are rapt to be able to get involved, we’ve missed out on a couple of carnivals due to COVID, so it’s great to get back into it,” Ms Dustan said.
“I think we’ve been blessed with the weather... it’s nice and warm, perfect conditions
“We’ve got a lot of year sevens competing they’re keen to have a go - and senior students who are really excelling.”
The house that came out on top was Hawke, with 1449 points, Nelson came in second, followed by Jervis and Drake.
The age group champions for U/13s were Lachan Pass and Lexi Gill. The U/14s boys champion has not yet been decided, pending a high jump event that still needs to take place, and the U/14s girls champion was Hayley Sutton. U/15 champions were James Pace and Ella Franke, U/16s Ayden Burke and Poopy Susa, U/17s Taj Benson and Hollie Vlasveld, and U/18s were Josh Seymour and Maddison Rossi.
Assistant Principal Ms Lee Jinks was equally excited about the big day.
“It’s fabulous to be able to get out and about again,” she said.
“It’s just nice to have a relaxed day, and the kids can get dressed up and enjoy themselves .”
