Ex-Storm players believe club is disrespecting Munster with contract offer
Are the Storm disrespecting Cameron Munster by offering the star five-eighth a cut-price deal to stay in purple?
That’s the sentiment of a raft of ex-Storm players, according to *The Sydney Morning Herald’s* Andrew Webster.
Those murmurings have come after the club moved to sign up the likes of Harry Grant, Jahrome Hughes and Xavier Coates on significant deals, effectively proving that Munster is fourth on their priority list.
Reports have suggested that the club have tabled Munster an extension on considerably less than the reported $1.1 million he currently earns a year, and Webster doesn’t understand why the club are chasing such a pay cut.
“He’s 27, it’s not like he’s passed his best football, I know what happened in the off-season,” Webster said on SEN 1170 Mornings.
“I’ve actually spoken to former Storm players and others about this, and they think it’s a huge lack of respect for Munster.
“I know what happened in the off-season happened, and they’ve supported him in terms of rehab and stuff.
“But, he’s given good service to that club over a long period of time.
“He’s won them premierships for God’s sake, I would’ve thought get in the queue really.
“(They should’ve told their squad) if they wanted to stay together, ‘Be prepared to take less so Cameron Munster can stay’.”
Webster believes the Storm have offered Munster a deal worth near around $750,000 a year, while the Dolphins could come in with a deal worth well in excess of that.
“The haircut the Storm want him to take is apparently enormous, around 400 (thousand) a year,” Webster said.
“I think the offer is 750 (thousand) a year (from the Storm), $1.2 million is what I reckon would be the starting price (from the Dolphins).”
Munster is contracted until the end of the 2023 season with the Storm, meaning he will be free to negotiate with rival clubs from November 1 this year.
