Last day rain boosts total

The last day of April brought with it the most rain recorded for the entire month.

Rain fell a total of 11 days in Warragul and Nilma North in April, bringing the total number of days of recorded rainfall this year to 31.

The rainiest day was April 30, with 40.6 millimetre­s recorded, followed by April 20 (13.2 mm), and April 18 (7.6mm).

The total rainfall for the month amounted to 83mm, bringing the year's total for the area to just over 230mm.

Mount Baw Baw's lowest minimum temperatur­e entered the negatives, at -0.7 degrees, meanwhile, its highest maximum temperatur­e was 15.2 degrees. In April, Mount Baw Baw received 199.4mm of rain in total and experience­d winds up to 69km/h.

According to the Australian Bureau of Meteorolog­y (BOM), the highest recorded temperatur­e in April in Warragul and Nilma North was 28.1 degrees, while the lowest was 4.1 - beating March's maximum and minimum temperatur­es of 31.5 degrees and 6.3.

The maximum recorded wind gust was westerly, measuring 59km/h, not much of a change from March's maximum wind gust (57 km/h).

BOM currently predicts a 60 to 65 per cent chance of the Baw Baw Shire region exceeding its median rainfall during May.

BOM also estimates a 60 to 65 per cent chance of the region exceeding its median temperatur­e in the northern parts of the municipali­ty (including Neerim South, Mt Baw Baw, and Buln Buln) and a 65 to 70 per cent further south (including Drouin, Yarragon, and Trafalgar). The region's median temperatur­e is between 12 and 18 degrees.
