Men’s Shed needs a home
The Warragul Men's Shed is looking for a new place to call home.
For many years, the group has resided at Community College Gippsland (CCG), however, due to new restrictions and regulations they are unable to continue working out of the facility.
Men's Shed president David Jarman said the group was thankful for the support they had received while at CCG. Especially from CCG chief executive officer Sue Geals, who they said tried her best to help them retain their spot.
"Sue has been trying her best to keep us at the college," Mr Jarman explained.
"She's been excellent."
Ms Geals said she would have liked to have the Men's Shed retain its spot at the college, but with tightening safety restrictions on school settings it was just too difficult to manage.
She explained that group members from the shed had been of great help to the college over the years, sometimes mentoring students and even helping out with maintenance tasks from time to time. "We are very sad to see them go," she said. The group is now looking for a new location for the Men's Shed, and is open to suggestions.
Mr Jarman said the group are in talks with council and is working on a proposal for a new shed. But until they find a new location, they are unable to take on any new projects.
"We've been in touch with the council and had a meeting with the council - they've been helpful in trying to put forward ideas," he said.
"At the moment there's not a lot of land available for us and as much as we would look to share the accommodation with another group, feasibility-wise, it can't work."
"We are trying to look at a stand-alone men's shed."
The Men's shed was formed in Yarragon about five and a half years ago and currently has more than 10 members.
The group's final project, which it began at CCG, was a television cabinet for Headway Gippsland, had to be completed in Mr Jarman's workshop.
